The Accounting Manager - Transactions and Policy will identify, research, analyze and conclude on technical accounting matters as well as create, review and modify existing accounting policies in response to existing and new accounting standard codifications and updates. Further, support efforts related to the timely, accurate, and efficient production of financial reporting and annual audited financial statements. They will develop effective partnerships with internal and parent company accounting and legal teams. They will support internal and parent company initiatives and communicate appropriate accounting treatment for variety of accounting matters. They will be adept at operating in high-volume, deadline-driven environments and thrive in an entrepreneurial and rapidly evolving atmosphere.
Maintain, improve and expand upon accounting policy and procedure manuals
Review and analyze transaction documents, accounting guidance, determine financial reporting requirements and prepare memos for presentation to management
Establish effective relationships with auditors to ensure timely evaluation and closure over complex accounting transactions along with related footnotes
Evaluate team workflows to propose and implement improvements in efficiencies
Monitor team performance, available capacity, and training needs
Work with various accounting teams on variance explanations
Support increased organization over month end close and financial reporting
Manage/Participate in projects and other ad hoc audit requests
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and CPA required
6+ years of accounting & reporting leadership experience
Prior audit/public accounting experience required
Yardi experience (single-family) preferred
Real Estate/Property Management experience preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Ability to communicate and present data to key stakeholders at all levels of an organization
Ability to improve and streamline multiple processes across different functions of department
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects
Proven problem solving, analytical, troubleshooting and time-management skills
Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills; has ability to convey a clear and concise thought.
