Position Summary:
The objective of the Category Manager role is to develop and execute category specific national procurement strategies for direct materials spend to drive supplier performance improvement while simultaneously reducing cost and risk. Leveraging multiple data & reporting platforms the associate will utilize their analytical skills to develop plans to support multiple groups of internal stakeholders. This role will report to the National Director Strategic Sourcing supporting the team responsible for sourcing, contracting, and supplier relationship management of over $200M annual spend.
Essential Functions:
Develop relationships with Progress Leaders across the organization to understand and document material and service level requirements as inputs to procurement strategy
Be a collaborative leader representing the Procurement team with a client-serving attitude
Manage Material Supplier Performance including Cost, Quality, Delivery, Contract Compliance. Ensure supplier accountability to performance goals and commitments
Based on business requirements, develop category specific nationwide procurement strategies to reduce organizational risk and drive performance improvements especially lowering Total Cost of Ownership (including material, warranty, service costs in product lifecycle, transactional & logistical costs)
Utilize both quantitative and qualitative data sources to support development of strategies targeted at improving performance gaps
Categorize and analyze spend for the purpose of identifying sourcing as well as product standardization opportunities
Partner with the Supply Chain team to develop supply programs, i.e., forward stocking, safety stock, and new program plans with Progress’s Strategic partners
Partner with Vendor Management team especially on licensed trade categories to ensure product selections are aligned to vendor base
Close collaboration with procurement team peers to lead projects implementing new contracted materials programs and process improvements
Partnering with Finance, Legal, Operations, and Vendor Management to negotiate contractual agreements with these suppliers
Qualifications:
5+ years in Materials Procurement
3+ years leading negotiations or supporting strategy development
3+ years implementing material supply programs
Bachelor’s degree in the field of supply chain management, finance, economics, data analytics/science, or business administration or 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain management
Familiar with various Procurement and MRP software solutions and Category management best practices
Familiar with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) modeling
Ability to travel to Suppliers, Conferences and Progress Markets 10-20% (5-10 trips / year)
Capable of analyzing and presenting spend analysis and category strategies
