Director of Resident Communications Position Summary

As the Director of Resident Communications for Progress, you’ll be working to support our work to continuously improve our resident experience by ensuring we have the right people, processes and tools in place to effectively communicate with our residents. The director will work cross-functionally and collaboratively with key functions across the company, including marketing, operations and customer care, to understand the functional business needs for communications and proactively and reactively communicate important information to our residents.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled strategic storyteller with a knack for interpersonal skills and a passion for creating connections and driving positive outcomes through messaging. The role will build a strong culture of collaboration to create communications that inform, inspire, engage and connect Progress with the residents we serve.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic planning and execution: This role will be responsible for developing, operationalizing and executing a comprehensive resident communications strategy, including the development and socialization of an intake process, editorial calendar and collaboration model to better align our resident communications across the enterprise. Communications deliverables would include (but not be limited to): resident emails, SMS messages, FAQs, talking points, and phone scripts for call center as needed.

Work cross-functionally across teams: This role will develop close partnerships and collaboration with Marketing, Digital, Operations, Customer Care and other teams to develop and execute resident communication initiatives from concept to delivery.

Develop and steward Progress’s voice and tone for resident communications: Develop and steward our Progress voice to ensure resident communications are written from a customer-focused lens that leads with empathy and understanding while also achieve business goals and objectives.

Own end-to-end process for resident communications: This role will be accountable for developing and executing a variety of resident communications and building the right people and technology structure to support message development and delivery. 

Provide communications best practices thought leadership to the organization: Serve as a thought leader to help identify gaps and opportunities and drive the right strategies and execution for resident-facing communications, from issues management to developing new, proactive communications initiatives to drive deeper engagement with our residents.


Experience: 10+ years of experience creating and implementing strategic communications strategies in a corporate environment.

Experience in creating processes, tools, technology, channels and messages that drive measurable business outcomes. 

Strong leadership experience: Demonstrated leadership experience in building influence and buy in to drive communications best practices and solutions, working cross-functionally and collaboratively across the enterprise.

Fearless when embracing technology: You’re comfortable learning new programs and implementing new technologies to enhance communication strategies. 

Organized and creative: With the ongoing evolution of our business and communications needs constantly changing, you’re able to adapt and change directions in an instant. You’re comfortable working at a face pace and are able to meet tight deadlines. 


Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, marketing, business administration or related discipline.
