Position Summary:

The Manager BI - Data Management will be an integral part of the central Business Intelligence and Data Management team that provides data, insights and reporting across Progress and its affiliated organizations. This role manages a team of BI Engineers and Sr Analysts and ensures we have the Single version of Truth for all enterprise data needs.

The Manager BI - Data Management will lead the Data Modeling efforts to optimize the BI data model, manage the Semantic layer, drive the data governance and help improve the overall data accuracy and quality. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the data and analytics journey at one of the largest owners and operators of single-family rental properties across the US.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads the Data Modeling efforts - owns the BI Data Model and works to optimize the data structure to meet the evolving needs of the business.

  • Works closely with BI Engineers/Analysts and business stakeholders to understand the organization data needs across different functional areas to improve the BI data model.

  • Partners closely with data architects, data engineers and data analysts on data discovery, reference data models, and data quality efforts. Works closely with IT on improving Enterprise DWH.

  • Ensures Single Version of Truth - Owns the semantic layer and manages data governance of all the metrics in the BI platform.

  • Drives alignment of business and technical definitions of enterprise KPI’s and memorializes the definitions in the enterprise Data Dictionary.

  • Works closely with business stakeholders and IT to ensure all metric consumption needs for enterprise reporting is met through the semantic layer (Looker).

  • Ensure the data needs of the organization can be efficiently addressed primarily through the BI platform (Looker) and identify alternatives as needed while maintaining single version of truth

  • Set policies and procedures for collecting, managing and using data to ensure data quality and integrity

  • Measure and monitor data quality using specialized tools and best practices to ensure data is accurate, complete and reliable.

  • Establish a good data governance program by identifying the data owners, data stewards and data custodians.

  • Coaches, mentors, and develops a team of Analysts and BI Engineers; embraces a people-first culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention, and high performance.

  • Work collaboratively with other team managers in BI team and broader Analytics team, and with stakeholders.

  • Gather complex data inputs from multiple sources, both internally and externally. Identify new data sources that will enhance business outcomes and support strategic and tactical objectives

  • Ensure new data ingestion meets the evolving business needs and fits well with the BI Data Modeling needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS or other quantitative fields

  • 7 years’ experience in data management, data engineering, data governance or data quality related practices. mining data in analytics and developing reporting using a variety of reporting/analytics software packages with an aptitude for learning new reporting software packages

  • Expertise with BI tools such as Looker, Power BI, Tableau

  • Expertise with SQL querying language

  • Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to think creatively and develop new solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage competing priorities & deliverables in a fast-paced, dead-line oriented environment

  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analysis skills

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and manage multiple priorities

  • Able to build strong cross-functional relationships and communicate with various levels of organization with different levels of data literacy.

  • Experience with process design and implementation

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with:

  • Salesforce & Yardi software applications

  • Data quality technology (e.g. Talend, Informatica, Monte Carlo)

  • Data Architecture

  • Statistical methods

  • Six Sigma and Lean practices
