The Vice President of Tax will drive the tax function with respect to the single-family real estate business line and reports directly to the Head of Tax. The tax function includes compliance, reporting and tax structuring. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working autonomously with cross functional partners in a high growth entrepreneurial environment.


Essential Functions:

  • Lead development of Tax Compliance & Reporting function for both the management company and the funds
  • Liaise with legal counsel as well as other subject-matter experts to identify and research tax issues and then formulate opinions and tax planning strategies
  • Oversee firm’s external ‘Big Four’ tax service providers
  • Prepare comprehensive quarterly income tax projections and estimated payments using multiple scenarios for various stakeholders
  • Own tax compliance filing such as:
    • Multi State Corporate and Partnership Tax Return Preparation, Consolidated Tax Returns
    • Investment and Private Equity, Partnership Returns and Profit Allocations
    • International Reporting (FBAR, FATCA, CRS, 951, )
    • Management company, operating company and fund K-1’s (estimates and final)
    • REIT testing and compliance
  • Respond to IRS notices, inquires, and audits
  • Handle various administrative duties (e.g., tax filing tracker, prepare tax return mailing labels, )
  • Proactively keep apprised of the ever-changing tax landscape (e.g., laws, proposals, tax strategies, etc.) as it relates to clients; communicate updates to relevant leadership
  • Provide tax preparation and filing support to clients; help clients gather documents, respond to requests/questions, schedule tax meetings,

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, with solid academic performance
  • CPA preferred
  • 7+ years of tax experience in public accounting and/or at an alternative asset manager (some public accounting preferred)
  • Investment partnership tax experience including K-1s required
  • Real estate asset management experience, including REITs, required
  • Excellent Excel and workpaper preparation skills
  • Ability to complete projects timely and accurately
  • Rigorous attention to detail and superb organizational skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment, as well as on own
  • Fervent desire to learn and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong tax research skills, i.e., able to perform tax research and opine on the subject matter
